Following an executive session at the January 14, 2025, Board Meeting, the Glynn County Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of Mr. Mike Blackerby as the new Superintendent of the Glynn County School System, effective July 1, 2025. He will succeed current Superintendent Scott Spence, who will retire at the end of the school year on June 30, 2025.
Prior to this announcement, the Board approved the December 2024 minutes and the following consent agenda items:
- November 2024 Financial Report: Year-to-date revenues are at 40.6% of budget, while expenditures are at 37%. The budget position stands at 41.6% as of November 2024.
- Brunswick High Field House Addition: Approved the guaranteed maximum price of $5,085,960 for Phase 2 of the field house addition, including all labor, materials and equipment provided by John A. Tuten & Associates Architects
- Brunswick High Combi Ovens: Approved the purchase of two new commercial ovens for $41,250.49, with $30,000 offset by the FY2024 NSLP Equipment Assistance Grant.
- Risley Annex Track Resurfacing: Approved Ridge Enterprises to resurface the track at a total cost of $61,950, including demolition of an adjacent restroom building.
- Board Policy Revision for JG(1) Video Surveillance: Approved revisions to enhance video surveillance measures within the school system.
- McKenzie DePratter Project: Approved a land transfer to Glynn County for a project to address traffic issues at the U.S. 341 intersection between Jane Macon Middle School and Sterling Elementary School.
Work Session Update
During the Work Session on January 9, the Board received updates on:
- Board Policy DJD Expense Reimbursements: Proposed policy revision for a 30-day public review, aiming to standardize travel expense reimbursements for school system personnel.
- Teacher Externship: Assistant Superintendent Eric Benson reported on the recent Teacher Externship, where 23 educators and administrators shadowed employees at various local organizations to better understand workforce needs.
