College and Career Resources

The Jane Macon Counseling Department strives to assist students in their exploration and education of the career world. Our objective is to encourage students to begin exploring, planning and developing academic and career goals.

6th, 7th and 8th grade students will be provided counseling, advisement, career awareness, career interest inventories and information to assist in evaluating their academic and career interests. This information will be used in 8th grade to assist students, parents and advisors in developing an individual graduation plan for high school.

6th Grade Students:

  • Learn about goal setting, study habits, listening skills, stereotyping, learning styles, values
  • Create Georgia Career Information Center (GCIC) account
  • Complete Career Cluster Survey

7th Grade Students:

  • Learn about decision-making, goal setting, study behaviors, options
  • Explore Career Pathways
  • Complete Interest Survey

8th Grade Students:

  • Learn about graduation requirements, social demands of high school, stereotypes, postsecondary options
  • Explore Careers and complete a Career Capstone project
  • Complete an Individual Graduation Plan

Georgia Career Information Center, a website partnered with the Georgia State University, will be used starting in the 6th grade and throughout students' middle and high school years. The goal is for high school students to successfully complete an individual graduation plan and 2 career interest inventories to help prepare them for a seamless transition to postsecondary study, further training, or employment (Bridge Bill - Section 20-2-327).

Students will create an account on the GCIC website and can monitor their progress during their journey through developing an academic plan and setting career goals.
